Lightness is the first series that stages the condition of lightness as an emotional state.

In this world, emotions are not fixed signs but entities shaped by form, color, and weight.

Their forms remain stable, while shifts in color, texture, and density reflect changes in emotional weight.

Transparent hues and lightly condensed fragments tend to float or disperse, and this behavior defines how the fragments settle within each scene.

Rather than constructing a narrative, the elements on the canvas articulate the tensions, proximities, and intervals through which emotional fragments are arranged.

 

This world resembles an inner climate more than an external landscape.

Boats, clouds, floating structures, and architectural elements such as stairs or bridges do not function as decorative motifs; they operate as devices that reposition light emotional fragments.

Emotions do not move on their own, and these devices adjust the intervals between fragments or return displaced pieces back into the flow of the scene.

The works in Lightness do not depict emotions becoming light by themselves; they reveal a structure in which the conditions for lightness are carefully arranged.

 

Here, lightness is not the name of a mood.

It is an environmental state in which emotions maintain workable distances and densities—conditions that allow the mind to move further rather than remain held in place.

Lightness does not signal positivity but captures the moment in which emotional fragments regain the possibility of movement.

 

Within the broader world of The Shape of Weight, Lightness becomes the first visual field in which light emotional fragments form scenes and make their operating conditions legible, serving as the point of departure before later series unfold the phases of heaviness or distance.

Lightness는 ‘가벼움’이라는 감정의 상태를 장면으로 구성하는 첫 번째 시리즈이다. 이 세계에서 감정은 고정된 기호가 아니라, 형태·색·무게를 지닌 존재로 다뤄진다. 형태는 비교적 안정된 성질을 유지하지만, 색과 질감, 밀도는 감정의 무게에 따라 지속적으로 변한다. 투명한 색과 가벼운 밀도의 조각들은 부유하거나 흩어지는 경향을 드러낸다. 화면의 요소들은 서사를 구성하기보다, 부유와 응축, 근접과 거리두기 사이의 조정 작용을 통해 감정들이 어떤 배치와 긴장 상태에 놓여 있는지를 드러낸다.

 

이 세계는 외부 풍경이라기보다 내면의 기후에 가깝다. 배, 구름, 부유 구조물, 계단·다리와 같은 인공 요소들은 정서를 둘러싼 장식적 이미지가 아니라, 가벼운 감정의 위치를 조정하는 장치로 기능한다. 감정은 스스로 이동하지 않기에, 이러한 장치들은 조각들 사이의 간격을 조정하거나 흐름 밖으로 밀려난 감정을 다시 장면 안으로 들이는 역할을 한다. Lightness의 화면은 감정이 자연히 가벼워지는 상태를 그리는 것이 아니라, 가벼움이 유지될 수 있도록 조건이 세밀하게 조정된 구조를 보여준다.

 

이 시리즈에서 가벼움은 특정한 정서적 분위기의 이름이 아니다. 감정이 적절한 거리와 밀도를 유지하며 존재할 수 있는 하나의 환경적 상태이며, 그 상태는 마음이 더 멀리 이동할 수 있는 기반을 형성한다. Lightness는 가벼움이 ‘긍정적 감정’을 뜻하는 것이 아니라, 감정이 제자리에 고이 머무르지 않고 다시 움직일 수 있는 여지를 만들어내는 순간을 포착한다.
