Lightness
The Lightness Series, part of The Shape of Lightness, begins with imagining that emotions carry weight.
If heavy emotions condense and sink, emotions that have become lighter rise, disperse, and become capable of moving toward inner balance.
In this series, I explore through painting the process by which the weight of emotion shifts toward lightness, and the structure of will that makes this movement possible.
The floating devices in the works function as representations of the will to keep emotion from remaining still, and to move it toward balance.
The Lightness Series presents not a state of having reached inner balance, but a process of moving toward it by adjusting the weight of emotion.

《The Shape of Lightness》의 일부인 Lightness Series는 감정이 무게를 가진다고 상상하는 데서 출발한다.
무거운 감정이 응축되어 가라앉는다면, 가벼워진 감정은 떠오르고 흩어지며 마음의 균형 쪽으로 이동할 수 있는 상태가 된다.
이 시리즈에서는 감정의 무게가 가벼움으로 이동하는 과정과 그 움직임을 가능하게 하는 의지의 구조를 회화로 탐구한다.
작품 속 부유하는 장치들은 감정을 정지된 상태에 머물게 하지 않고, 균형 쪽으로 이동시키려는 의지의 표상으로 작동한다.
Lightness Series는 마음의 균형에 도달한 상태가 아니라, 감정의 무게를 조율하며 그곳으로 향해 가는 과정을 제시하는 연작이다.
