Lightness

The Lightness Series, part of The Shape of Lightness, begins with the idea that emotions possess weight.

If heavy emotions condense and sink, emotions that have become lighter rise and disperse, entering a state in which they can move toward inner balance.

Through painting, the series explores the process by which emotional weight shifts toward lightness, as well as the structure of will that makes this movement possible.

The floating devices in the works embody the will to keep emotion from remaining static and to move it toward balance.

Rather than depicting a state in which inner balance has already been reached, the Lightness Series presents the process of moving toward it by adjusting emotional weight.

Lightness
《The Shape of Lightness》의 일부인 Lightness Series는 감정이 무게를 가진다고 상상하는 데서 출발한다.

무거운 감정이 응축되어 가라앉는다면, 가벼워진 감정은 떠오르고 흩어지며 마음의 균형 쪽으로 이동할 수 있는 상태가 된다.

이 시리즈에서는 감정의 무게가 가벼움으로 이동하는 과정과 그 움직임을 가능하게 하는 의지의 구조를 회화로 탐구한다.

작품 속 부유하는 장치들은 감정을 정지된 상태에 머물게 하지 않고, 균형 쪽으로 이동시키려는 의지의 표상으로 작동한다.

Lightness Series는 마음의 균형에 도달한 상태가 아니라, 감정의 무게를 조율하며 그곳으로 향해 가는 과정을 제시하는 연작이다.
